Volunteering
The FATN is always looking for additional volunteers to assist us in providing Talking Newspaper services to the visually impaired people living in our coverage area.

If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer please complete the Volunteer Application form and submit to us either electronically by clicking the 'Submit' button or by printing a copy of the form and sending it to us by post.

The National Talking News Federation has produced an interesting talk on
How to Become a Volunteer.

We would be pleased to discuss with you the type of voluntary tasks involved.  Normally tasks are scheduled on a rota basis where you would be rostered once or twice per month.  If you would like further details about volunteering please use the Enquiry form.
 
Reader Editor/Reader:  you would form part of a team operating on a rota basis, for the editing of local newspapers and reading of the stories during a 78 minute recording period.  You would be required to attend an audition before being accepted as a reader and training would be provided on news editing and reading techniques.
 
Recording Engineer Recording Engineer:  one recording engineer is allocated on a rota basis for each recording who is responsible for the quality of the digital recording and the post record editing.  A good computer operating knowledge is required (not technical) and full audio and operational training would be provided.
 
Production Assistant Production Assistant:   you would form part of a small team operating on a rota basis for the logging of returned listener CD mailing wallets, the duplication of new recorded CDs and the logging-out of the new CD and USB mailing wallets to listeners.   Full training would be provided on all aspects of barcode logging and CD duplication.
 
Duty Officer

Duty Officer:  this requirement is for a volunteer to work on a rota basis to answer the telephone and assist the caller with any queries about our service or to take messages to pass on to another volunteer who can answer the query.  In addition, some general administration work would be involved.
